Matsubayashi Karate-do (Pine Forest Style), was founded by
Grandmaster Shoshin Nagamine, awarded Fifth Class Order
of the Rising Sun from the Emperor of Japan. In addition to this he was
recognized as the head of Chozen-ji International Zen Dojo receiving
acknowledgement of his Zen realization Ken Zen Ichinyo... "Karate and Zen
in Oneness", from the Archbishop of Daihonzan Chozen-ji Tanouye Tenshin
Rotaishi, the 84th Dharma Successor of Rinzai Zen.
Please feel welcome to the Santa Cruz branch dojo. We are a small group, training in the old fashioned ways, in a traditional dojo with traditional warm hearted values.
Matsubayashi-Ryu is a style that is in direct lineage of the founding masters of karate-do. Preston Sensei had the unique opportunity to learn directly from its founder, Osensei Shoshin Nagamine, as well as his son, Soke Takayoshi Nagamine, along with many other senior sensei (Makishi Sensei, Tamaki Sensei, Nakamura Sensei).
What we therefore proudly present, is the art without any dilution or distortion. This is as original as it can possibly get.
