FUKYUGATA ICHI

Grand Master
  1. Toward the end of kata, the last punch, when you spin to do gedan-uke the stand and chudan-zuki, on the spin he wants the spin to be on the ball of foot and not the heel. Okinawa 1995

Makishi Sensei
  1. When you do a general spin into zenkutsu-dachi gedan-uke block must be fast and everything should land at the same time. Okinawa 1995
  2. Remember to equalize the power on all techniques, but especially the punches in this kata. The drive out and back should be equal in speed and power. Be aware from zenkutsu-dachi to standing punches. Okinawa 1995
  3. When you go to do the first spin 45°, you are right foot forward leading punch. Forget the focus on the leading foot; leave it there. Spin with back (left leg driving the momentum) then the right foot simply follows and spins not on the heel but the ball. Okinawa 1998
  4. On the last technique, make sure shoulders are square at 45° - do not overextend left shoulder. Okinawa 1998
  5. On the zenkutsu-dachi gedan-uke you must, on the leading arm, pull in tight and swing in an arc from the elbow down. Okinawa 1999
  6. Walking punches, koshi goes out, then use koshi again to snap back. Okinawa 1999
  7. On the second judan-uke right before the kiai, place the foot first, then high block. Okinawa 1999
  8. On the way back on the turn, place leading foot first and let the back foot pivot last on the ball, but don't lift the ball, just slide it. Okinawa 1999

Higa Sensei
  1. When walking forward, foot spacing should be one-foot length plus one fist. Okinawa 2003
  2. More koshi going into zenkutsu-dachi, sweep into place. Okinawa 2003
  3. For KC: Raise chudan-zuki slightly (water run down). Okinawa 2003
  4. For KC: Fix jodan-uke - more scissor/friction. Okinawa 2003

Kadekaru Sensei
  1. On my next to last turn zenkutsu-dachi gedan-uke, my belly button is not aligning properly was pointing too much to the left. Okinawa 1995
  2. The last two moves in this kata, from zenkutsu-dachi to shizantai-dachi jodan-zuki, Kadekaru held my shoulders tight with his hands as I got up to do it, holding them down, reason because my shoulders are almost raising off my body leading into that punch, my legs and midriff should kind of raise up first then punch comes. Remember to point your belly button and not your eyes for proper alignment in kata. I think there is almost a slight twist that left knee, and a torque into correct position when you stand up to do the last jodan-zuki, of course that applies across the board. Okinawa 1995
