After the move, naname zenkutsu-dachi - avoid punch - return double punch, on the move forward into zenkutsu-dachi jodan kosa-uke looking move, my head bobbed up and down; keep thigh muscle tension from jigotai-dachi to zenkutsu-dachi. It must stay level; no height changing. Okinawa 1995
Makishi Sensei
After the jodan kosa-uke above head, as it comes back down and to the sides it has a clearing effect. Okinawa 1995
After the strike out to either side, then start the shuto-ukes; make sure you use your koshi. Work the main frame first on that turn, and shuto-uke stems from that, otherwise it's an empty technique. For those whip turns he exclaims "sshuak/sshuak!" Okinawa 1995
The step is 45° before you step up ippon-dachi makite-uke (one legged stance with winding block) Okinawa 1995
Remember from the last shuto-uke you're only taking one small step at 45° then come up. Okinawa 1995
On the ippon-dachi makite-uke right hand turn over grab/strike: don't bring the left hand back to chamber to punch, but go directly from it's supporting position. On the next move the block comes out palm up, but the wrist is not straight. The wrist is slightly bent - this gives more power. Okinawa 1995
Leg comes up supported block: as your heel sets down, that's when your hand turns over for the grab/palm strike, then punch-punch, the fist not under the elbow, but the armpit. Then whisk it out, and when it comes back to rest it doesn't go to the neck, but on arm top below the shoulder. On this move, as it comes, you sink in your jigotai-dachi about 2 inches, really fast. On the next move, don't tense your body, work the zenkutsu-dachi block with from elbow down totally relaxed, then power at the end; 100% snap. Okinawa 1995
On the kick/step, don't let the support foot heel come off the ground, make sure it stays planted. Also watch for sliding on the walking punches; don't take extra slides. Okinawa 1995
When closing the right arm shoulder drags (almost looks like square punch) across the chest, so as you turn to close the chest is covered. Okinawa 1995
Has 18 counts. Okinawa 1999
On the jodan-kosa-uke high block, separate into two moves; stop at the high point. Okinawa 1999
After third shuto-uke, application: grab opponents arm, punch with left under their armpit. Then bring back your left hand to your right armpit under their punch, thereby trapping their fist under your right armpit, while you punch your right arm to the inside of their punch. When they punch again, you block with your left shuto (ish)-uke to their outside elbow, then bring that hand back to your right shoulder (kiai) and punch with your right to under their armpit. Okinawa 1998
On the dodge move, use koshi to drive back, koshi to drive forward; all one move, no stop on the dodge. Okinawa 2003
The jodan kosa-uke is not really a block; placement needs to be just so you can see under arms. Okinawa 2003
Application for the 45° step and the makite-uke is evading an incoming attack. The previous move was shuto-uke blocking a left punch from opponent; right punch is blocked by the makite-uke. Okinawa 2003
Higa Sensei
More power on the first shuto-uke, and no foot shift on the second. Okinawa 2003
Jodan kosa-uke not too high up; bend in arms, and a little above the head. Bring arms in to chest before striking out. Power comes from the chest and back, out to the sides. Okinawa 2003
More power to the support hand on makite-uke. Okinawa 2003
More koshi on soto-shuto-uke (end of series). Okinawa 2003
Shinjo Sensei
Before the makite-uke you don't step to the side, you step in at a 45°, then lift and leg. Okinawa 1999
Tamaki Sensei
On wari jodan-uke on the bring-down chase punch to either side, on the bring down contract and suck in the belly. On nekoashi gedan-uke use the belly! Second move in pinan sandan use the belly! Okinawa 1995
On the move before the kiai, that block coming out, the left leg needs to be locked and in aware conjunction to that block, the koshi must turn/whip fast to get it out correctly. Okinawa 1995
Kadekaru Sensei
The wari jodan-uke, as you come down your fist just cross at end of wrist just over eyes, then the elbow's collapse perfectly straight down, then from elbow are torques out like the kyobu shuto in F2. Fist drop to bottom of chin then out. Okinawa 1995
To get to ippon-dachi makite-uke (one legged stance with winding block) my timing was not perfect, must happen together leg and arm as one move, one count, sprite leg up. Okinawa 1995
Same move, step a little to the 45° angle, first set foot (as in first move of Passai), then the left shuto arm that was out goes completely straight parallel to left leg, meanwhile right arm is dropping to the outstretched arm but only to inside elbow, because now the right arm is coming up, the right arm doing motion like that of chudan-uke, windshield wiper motion. Make sure leg covers groin. Next move is kiai, when you do the shuto resting on collarbone. Okinawa 1995
In jigotai-dachi, with fist is in armpit and chudan-zuki out, whip out the shuto-uke, and make sure your "home" is leading, so pivot your waist very fast from jigotai-dachi into naname zenkutsu-dachi. Okinawa 1995
Be aware on last set of kick series that arms are working simultaneously in union, not separately. Okinawa 1995
The closing move in Okan the left foot small step 45° angle, arm goes to armpits and come forward, key point is to pivot your center of gravity in one spot, don't do a swing, sway back with upper back when about to come forward. From the placement of left foot from exactly there both feet simply pivot into place. Okinawa 1995
Nakamura Sensei
After you avoid the punch, make sure the two punches follow immediately. You just twist and return punches, like one move; no hesitation. Okinawa 1995
The jodan kosa-uke can't be too high or you loose the muscle structure/power position. Muscles in armpits and ribs. Have to keep it lower - just over eyes, wrists crossed. Okinawa 1995
The jodan kosa-uke and side strikes, this move is not meant to punch opponents to the sides, but "threatening" many opponents. A challenge. Okinawa 1995
The knee up move with supported elbow - when hand turns over - can be either a grab or palm strike. The next move where nukite hand rest on neck, that move in application can be a block coming out and an extra block coming in. Okinawa 1995
