GOJUSHIH0

Grand Master
  1. In the "fingers pinched move"(shi-zuki) to top of foot, go directly up to the chin strike - again no "wind up". Directly linearly down, precisely straight up; keep it all one line with no circular motion. Okinawa 1995
  2. On opening uraken-uchi don't pop the whole arm forward, just from the elbow out and snap the wrist. Okinawa 1998
  3. In the beginning, after the second double high block it's not a foot moon search, but rather a spring forward 45° with the search a double punch, so after the kick punch, you do a spring 45° (the opposite 45° direction) forward. Okinawa 1998
  4. There are four kiais in the kata, at the first three kicks and the last double nikute-zuki. Okinawa 1998
  5. When you do the "drunken monkey" move the leg should lift almost to hip height, and your mid-body should go 45° as well, and don't tip your head upright, whole body along 45° plane. Okinawa 1998
  6. When you do the first chase punch you should speed up to go into the second chase punch. Okinawa 1998
  7. When you do the chudan-uke then punch, on the chudan-uke your stance should be jigotai-dachi, not zenkutsu-dachi. Only go into zenkutsu-dachi on the punch. Okinawa 1999
  8. Only do the foot search with the hand search, don't do it with the double high block. Okinawa 1999
  9. When you do the up elbow-turn-nukite-zuki series, the left, non-active hand goes under the armpit, further in and not a down block. Okinawa 1999

Makishi Sensei
  1. Kiai on all four kicks. Okinawa 1995
  2. After the fist spring block - keep that uraken-uchi level; don't pop it up. Okinawa 1995
  3. On the double high block, the first one the left arm is a bit higher, second one the right is an inch higher. Okinawa 1995
  4. After search, making sure feet do the moon sweep, no hesitation. Immediately connect the double punch then elbow up in zenkutsu-dachi and stand for next move. Okinawa 1995
  5. Do block, shuto, and left hand from shuto immediately from that position do nukite. Okinawa 1995
  6. Hand set open at side for the spring forward sweep three nukites. Okinawa 1995
  7. Turn nukite, two chest blocks/punches, then into jigotai-dachi pinch finger strike. Okinawa 1995
  8. Pivot into zenkutsu-dachi finger pinch strike straight up to chin, no circular motion. Okinawa 1995
  9. Kick and punch, then elbow break. (Starts from stomach, crossing then finishes as Naihanchi Nidan last move) The second one of these has an extra motion. The fist very quickly flies out and back - like chase punch orientation/split second and set back, fist set in armpit, cat stance. Okinawa 1995
  10. Spring double nukite-zuki, then as you turn, the right arm comes straight in, slower, knifes in, not a shuto, and left hand sets under right elbow. The stance as you turn is a left leading zenkutsu-dachi, finish by drawing back. Okinawa 1995
  11. Has 26 counts. Okinawa 1999
  12. Spring step only on the first two nekoashi-dachis (high block) Okinawa 1999
  13. After the nukite-zuki and then turn around - do the drunken move, this is all one count. Okinawa 1999
  14. Also only zenkutsu-dachi on chest block/strike. Okinawa 1999
  15. On the drunken move you should keep your belt knot facing forward and do like naihanchi step over before you go into jigotai-dachi. Okinawa 1999
  16. After elbow up you turn around, do nukite-zuki (with small block) then do a regular shuto, in normal fashion and power, keep left hand open - in regular position. Okinawa 1999
  17. Go into nukite-zuki fast! Okinawa 1999
  18. The two hand circles with straight in nukite, bunkai is blocking Chinese style punches to the face. Okinawa 1999
  19. On the two small circles with spring nukite-zuki should make full extension with right arm and full drawback with open hand in left chamber. Okinawa 1999
  20. When you do the second set and do drunken move, as you go to step over it should be like naihanchi footwork; just step over support foot and do nukite. Okinawa 1999
  21. The circular nukite-zuki with spring nekoashi-dachi, Makishi said he likes the application for this because they are like the Chinese way of blocks; just bring hands up circularly and punches are deflected. When you end these series', your inside open nukite-zuki needs to be back in chamber, not hanging out by the extended nukite-zuki. Osaka Temple 2000
  22. The pinched finger strike to the top of the foot needs to be more powerful, with more motion going downward. Osaka Temple 2000
  23. Whenever you have your open palm in chamber, make sure it is parallel to your side. Okinawa 2003
  24. The stand-up after the second set of spring nekoashi-dachi nikute-zuki my legs need to be farther apart - right before going into drunken move. Like the kyobu shuto-uke in Fukyugata ni. Okinawa 2003
  25. When you stand up (after two rolling nukites and straight nukite), and turn around and you do the side down low open palm block, the far-most hand is facing palm out and thumb to the back facing back. Okinawa 2003

Higa Sensei
  1. First move, left hand does an open hand down block, the right hand/arm does a draw up inside circle from the elbow on, then do the wrist flop/snap. Okinawa 1998
  2. Next, when you do the jodan wari-uke double high block, you need to skim your chest n the way up (don't "flap your wings"). Okinawa 1998
  3. After your torite-uke search be sure to do the double punches fast - very connected. Okinawa 1998
  4. Then after zenkutsu-dachi elbow block, do a full Shuto-uke, and a full nikute-zuki (left hand open at side for beginning position), then do the spring forward and end it with a full straight in nikute-zuki, with the right nikute-zuki out and the left hand should be positioned open palm facing side below armpit, Then turn zenkutsu-dachi, now the left hand should be in fist position and right arm full nikute-zuki. Okinawa 1998
  5. Ok when you go to do the finger (on toes and under chin) move (shi-zuki), it should have a zing, a spring to it and the stance change quick, the look of the move is very Chinese. Okinawa 1998
  6. Ok, now finish the second nikute-zuki spring set; now as you turn don't go in to jigotai-dachi! Go into standing position! Now lift right leg at 45° (drunken move). Now, when it lands on the other side of left foot (exactly like first move in Naihanchi Shodan) then go into jigotai-dachi, ok next move is this. Okinawa 1998
  7. Your open knife hands (downwards), go into jigotai-dachi, and you (I didn't see Higa Sense I do any shoulder motion) simply place the left fist into side while simultaneously doing a nikute-zuki with right, then using the momentum do the repeated open knife hands down with the right foot/leg remands stationary and the left leg draws up. Okinawa 1998
  8. Don't over-emphasize the palm block, or reach out too far. Okinawa 2003
  9. Heisuku-dachi (feet together) on shizentai-dachi/nukite-zuki move. Okinawa 2003
  10. Left hand at hikite position on nekoashi-dachi/nukite-zuki strike. Okinawa 2003
  11. From washide strike (beak), zenkutsu-dachi to jigotai-dachi double elbow, hands/arms come in and up to get to double elbow. Same for the second double arm strike. Okinawa 2003

Kadekaru Sensei
  1. On the jodan wari-uke when facing to the left, your left hand is slightly higher and when facing to the right, right hand is slightly higher. Okinawa 1995
  2. After search immediately do double punch, these two moves are connected, no hesitancy. Okinawa 1995
  3. When you do the gedan haito-yoko-uke (low side reverse side block) look the direction you are going and not straight ahead, look to the side)@

Mr. Kohaguar
  1. Taught me that the application of the move where the fingers are pinched together is a strike to the top of the foot (opponent's kick) and a strike to the bottom of the chin. Okinawa 1995

Yaga Sensei
  1. In beginning of kata, after the second set, punch kick, and go into zenkutsu-dachi elbow up, you should be right leading. Okinawa 1999
  2. When you do the shi-zuki finger at toe and chin in zenkutsu-dachi, it should be quick: one count. Okinawa 1999 Also - the count - after the chase punch, the second one should be connected to the two elbows in (like Naihanchi Nidan first move) then second count is the strike outward/return. Okinawa 1999
