FUKYGATA NI

Makishi Sensei
  1. On the elbow up the shoulders should be 45°, not straight, then they go straight on the next move. Okinawa 1995
  2. On the jodan-zuki when you drop down into jigotai-dachi all lands at the same time, weight drops. Your jigotai-dachi stance, if you twist and drop the measurement should be one fist width, measurement for height is the bottom of your fingers should be top of the knee. On the jodan-uke fist ends at side of head and fist orientation is same as in punch. Okinawa 1995
  3. After first high block remember to cross arms as dropping back into jigotai-dachi, then block. Okinawa 1995
  4. On the next move the right foot pivots but does not move, left foot draws up into place. Okinawa 1995
  5. After second high block, spring back and be blocking as you spring - don't wait until the end to do it. Use your left arm for covering, must cross. Okinawa 1995
  6. Two chest blocks, then kiai on the kick. Elbow up, but not too high, elbow is the same level as the shoulder. For the next move, be sure to cross arms before the gedan-uke. Okinawa 1995
  7. On the zenkutsu-dachi gedan-uke followed by the gyaku-zuki, these two are directly tied. Timing is connected as one count; don't hesitate between the two. Okinawa 1995
  8. Next move, the left foot stays, right foot draws up very quickly, the same speed as the kyobu shuto-uchi whips out to the neck. Okinawa 1995
  9. From the last kyobu shuto-uchi draw back, the wrists simple cross, come back to armpits and out for tomoe-zuki double strike. Fists should be one fist-width apart horizontally, and two fist-widths apart vertically. Make sure the shoulders are level; feet come together and same thing; wrists just cross and boom. Okinawa 1995
  10. After high punch and fall back into jigotai-dachi/block, don't cast eyes down. Okinawa 1998
  11. The elbow up is to the chest, not the chin. Okinawa 1998
  12. Foot down on the first moveOkinawa 1999
  13. On the elbow-up, the strike is to the chest, not the chin.Okinawa 1999
  14. On the elbow strike, why is the upper body 45° instead of square? So you can extend your reach. A second application is you can turn the elbow into an uraken-uchi.Okinawa 1999
  15. On the neck shuto, the second half of the technique should be flat. Okinawa 1999
  16. The timing of the gedan-uke and chudan-zuki is one count. Osaka Temple 2000

Higa Sensei
  1. After kick/elbow set down zenkutsu-dachi your body (chest/midriff) should be facing 45°, not square, then down block, then when you do the punch, the punch should drive your hips square and locked, with good momentum. Okinawa 1998
  2. Jigotai-dachi: knees not too far forward over toes. Rotate pelvis; dip back. Okinawa 2003
  3. For KC: Raise jodan-zuki slightly, to nose level. Okinawa 2003

Tamaki Sensei
  1. The kyobu shuto-uchi, on the first one the left foot is stationary and the right slides up; make sure the kyobu shuto-uchi and the slide up have to be simultaneous, not one/two. On the second one, right foot stationary left sliding, use your "koshi" to whip your hips and slide out the kyobu shuto-uchi. Remember on that shuto-uchi to get the elbow snap into it, don't just stick out your arm. Okinawa 1995
  2. The kyobu shuto-uchi is in two parts, with the elbow leading the way in the first part. Okinawa 1995
  3. My kyobu shuto-uchi I was using the whole arm as a unit, but I need to have the elbow leading. Okinawa 1995

Shinjo Sensei
  1. Taught me the application of the last two moves. With shuto-uchi out to the neck, draw back and the wrists cross, but the right arm is doing a chest block (opponent comes in right zenkutsu-dachi, right seiken) and that exposes their side where the tomoe-zuki double strike lands. Then legs come together and back into zenkutsu-dachi, but with the left arm dominating doing a circular chest block. Okinawa 1995

Hombu
  1. Kyobu shuto-uchi, must cross block and not use only one arm, so arm crosses shuto hand on the inside other arm, scissors effect, rub that arm at the shuto wrist. Okinawa 1995
