Grand Master
  1. The first move with the feet, the left steps over, but should touch your right foot with no space in between. On the second leg crossing - headed to the left, make it a big cross over with space between your feet. On the third and final cross over, it is a small crossing with the feet touching, as in the first move. Okinawa 1995
  2. In the three block series, make sure that on the uraken-uchi that the shoulders don't get lopsided, but stay level. Okinawa 1995

Makishi Sensei
  1. First move, left foot comes over right; at this point feet should be so closer they touch. Okinawa 1995
  2. Now heading back other direction, large step, so should be same on second half of kata for a total of two small steps and two large. Okinawa 1995

  4. Kiai on the morote-zuki double punch. Okinawa 1995
  5. Naihanchi leg block, they are not a block but perhaps dodging a sword attack.
  6. The swinging leg heel goes to other knee then back down. Okinawa 1995

  19. On chudan uchi-mawashi-uke, must clear the side of the body of a side attack, without dropping the height of the fist as it comes across. Do not move the legs, but the waist only. Do not collapse the knee. Okinawa 2003
  20. For Naihanchi, and all katas, the order is mei (eye)-ash (foot)-te (hand) Okinawa 2003

Shinjo Sensei
  1. Kaku-zuki should not land too low or be cocked outward. Should be exactly parallel to body. Okinawa 1998
  2. When you do the flop uraken-uchi it should be at your centerline and not at shoulder line. Okinawa 1998

Higa Sensei
  1. Stance: outside of feet are straight, weight on the outside. Okinawa 2003
  2. In ready stance, the knuckles should not "peek" from under the open hand. Okinawa 2003
  3. On chudan soto-mawashi-uke, the fist should be more aligned over the elbow, don't leave it hanging out for a break. Okinawa 2003
  4. The chudan uchi-mawashi-uke before the kiai should be straight over, don't change height. Okinawa 2003
  5. Focus on the foot coming down first, THEN do block. Okinawa 2003

Nakamura Sensei
  1. Make sure kaku-zuki is just below the shoulders, and remember the slight retraction. Okinawa 1995
  2. On uraken-uchi, make sure to use the whole arm from the elbow down, along with wrist action. Okinawa 1995

Tamaki Sensei
  1. Roll your stomach on the morote-zuki double strike (kiai) and don't raise your upper body or your shoulders use your stomach muscle, don't raise shoulder, he says nekoashi-dachi needs to be tighter and zenkutsu-dachi groin needs covering so move knee inward. Okinawa 1995
